Meanwhile, in a candid conversation with the ICC, Mahmudullah said, “It’s been a long time since I made my debut in 2007. Since then, I have been playing for a long time. I feel lucky to have hit so many hundreds in the World Cup.”

“Cricket is a game that always surprises you. I worked hard to be a part of the World Cup, and thanks to god that I am here. I have always tried to give my best,” he added.

However, the journey wasn't without its ups and downs. After being snubbed for the Asia Cup 2023, the 37-year-old made a triumphant return to the World Cup squad. His current World Cup stint has shades of nostalgia as he suggests this might be his swansong on the international cricket.

“Honestly speaking, I am playing in my last World Cup. Performance and fitness will decide how long I will play for Bangladesh. Maybe, after a few days or very soon I will retire from international cricket,” Mahmudullah added.

Mahmudullah's illustrious career, spanning over a decade, boasts impressive numbers. Born in Mymensingh, he has played 225 matches and has amassed staggering 5218 runs with an average of 36.24. This tally includes four scintillating centuries and 27 half-centuries. Not just a force with the bat, Mahmudullah's all-rounder credentials are further bolstered with his 82 wickets, boasting an average of 46.23.
