Intikhab Alam, the erstwhile skipper of the Pakistan cricket team, recently shone a spotlight on Kuldeep Yadav, India's ace wrist spinner, predicting a significant impact from him during the ODI World Cup 2023. Yadav's recent form, notably his stellar contributions to India's Asia Cup triumph, make a compelling case for Alam's observations. Throughout the tournament, Yadav demonstrated his mastery over the ball, accumulating a remarkable total of nine wickets. His impressive tally boasted a five-wicket haul as well as a four-wicket feat, which collectively propelled him to claim the Player of the Series award.

The 28-year-old spinner has faced challenges, particularly a knee injury that demanded a break from the game. However, since his return, Yadav has fine-tuned his craft, focusing on his arm speed and delivery angles. This reinvention of his technique has manifested in his ability to dismantle batting line-ups during the middle overs, a crucial phase in the ODI format.

Intikhab Alam, with his multifaceted engagements with India – as a former player and a previous manager of the Pakistan cricket team – offered his insights, particularly regarding the high-octane India-Pakistan face-off slated in Ahmedabad. He remarked, "The way India played in the Asia Cup and played the final (decimating Sri Lanka). They look like the team to beat. Their spin attack stands out. Kuldeep is going to play a major role in the tournament. He will test the batters of all teams." His statements to PTI on Saturday encapsulated the anticipation and strategy analyses that precede such global events.

A significant part of India's arsenal is the pairing of Kuldeep Yadav with Ravindra Jadeja, forming a formidable spin duo. Alam emphasized this, saying, "Jadeja and Kuldeep make a lethal combination. Kuldeep is a match-winner. He is the best spinner in this World Cup in my opinion. Now you also have (Ravichandran) Ashwin back." The endorsement from Alam, an 81-year-old cricket veteran born in pre-Independence Hoshiarpur, India, carries significant weight.

Beyond the spin department, Alam also turned his attention to India's batting might. With legends like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, paired with the rising star Shubman Gill, India's batting depth and prowess make them a formidable contender for the World Cup trophy. Given these factors, the cricketing world waits in eager anticipation to witness how Team India navigates the challenges of the ODI World Cup 2023, with Yadav potentially leading the charge in the bowling department.
