Shahid Afridi in talks for PCB Management role following meeting with PCB Chairman and Pakistan Interim PM

Following his critical remarks about PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf's leadership, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has been reported offered a job in the management. After a high-profile discussion with Pakistan's interim Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, Afridi met with Ashraf at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium.

"I received a call from the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday and had to rush to Islamabad to meet the PM. It was really a pleasure talking to the PM on cricketing issues. He looked keen on the proper training of youth and grooming them in a systematic way so that they could go on to make a name for themselves and for the country," Afridi stated, as reported by Geo Super.

His encounter with PM Kakar seems to have set the stage for Afridi's potential involvement with the PCB. Afridi’s subsequent meeting with Ashraf has fueled speculation about him assuming a position in the cricket board's management—a scenario that seemed unlikely when Afridi voiced his displeasure with the PCB chairman on national TV two days back.

Afridi also revealed that the Pakistan Prime Minister wanted him to assume a post in the PCB management.

“I sought some time to decide on my association with the future PCB. What Pakistan cricket requires is systemic and par-excellence training of the players from the start to the top level. That has not been happening in Pakistan cricket with the result that we struggle to polish the available talent and make them a real-world beater,” Afridi told The News, as reported by Indian Express.

The official press release from the PCB, however, did not reveal the specifics of the conversation that took place between Ashraf and Afridi but it stated,"During the meeting, Ashraf acknowledged Afridi’s dedication and contribution towards the game and told him, ‘We admire you as a hero of Pakistan, and you have proved to be a great ambassador of the country with both your exceptional talent displayed on the field and your conduct off the field. We would love to have your experience for the betterment of Pakistan cricket.”
