Former India captain and batting legend, Sunil Gavaskar slammed two Indian batters - Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer - after the two stars failed to convert their starts into a big score against Bangladesh on October 19 (Thursday). Gill scored 53 runs off 55 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes while Iyer could only manage 19 runs off 25 balls on what looked like a batting paradise of a wicket at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

Gavaskar was unimpressed with Gill and Iyer's lackluster attitude and their failure to capitalise on the opportunity to score big runs. The Indian legends cited the example of Virat Kohli and ripped the two India stars who threw their wickets away against Bangladesh.
"He (Shreyas Iyer) lost his patience. He was batting on 19, threw his wicket away. Shubman Gill (was batting on) fifty (52), threw his wicket away," said Gavaskar on Star Sports.
"Kohli never does that. Kohli will seldom ever throw his wicket away. He makes you earn his wicket. And that is exactly what you need. When he got to 70-80, realising that he has an opportunity to get to a hundred and why not? Hundreds don't come everyday.
"You need to know how to get to a hundred and it's important for Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill. Shubman Gillis at least getting hundreds, Shreyas Iyer is not getting hundreds. He is getting his opportunities to bat at number 4 on pitches as good as these and attacks as toothless as this and he is throwing away the opportunity," the legendary batter added.
Meanwhile, the Men in Blue defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets and made it four wins in as many matches played in the competition so far. Kohli stole the limelight once again after he notched up his 48th ODI century. The former Indian skipper remained unbeaten on 103 runs off 97 balls.
Next up, India will face in-form New Zealand on October 22 (Sunday) in Dharamshala.
