In his own words, Shakib explained, "May be I will retire from three formats at the same time, and no one can tell about the future, but at this moment, I have such an idea." While his future decisions remain fluid, this announcement marks a significant point in his illustrious career.
Captaincy Exit
Shakib's leadership journey has also been a focal point in recent times. Earlier this year, he returned as Bangladesh's ODI captain after Tamim Iqbal stepped down from the position ahead of the Asia Cup. Shakib clarified that he took on the role at the request of BCB chief Najmul Hasan Papon. However, he made it clear that his stint as the skipper of the Tigers' ODI squad will conclude after the upcoming World Cup.
"As far as reality goes, I will lead till this World Cup and I won't lead in ODIs after that," Shakib affirmed. His resignation as captain in September was motivated by the team's needs rather than personal aspirations. The decision was a response to the call of duty, ensuring the best interests of the team.
World Cup Showdown
