Virat Kohli scored 54 runs against Australia in Ahmedabad.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammates Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell engaged in banter during the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In the 21st over of the first innings, Maxwell decided to have some fun and threw the ball at Kohli even when he was well inside the crease. Kohli knew that the throw wasn’t wild and stopped it with his glove instead of moving out of the way.

After Kohli stopped the throw, Maxwell walked towards him. They exchanged a few words and then Maxwell laughed as the two got back to their positions. The video of the exchange between the two cricketers in a tense final encounter has been making rounds on social media.

Kohli lost his wicket in the 29th over of the innings. Skipper Pat Cummins bowled a slower short delivery. Kohli was in two minds and decided to defend it. The inside edge hit the stumps as the Ahmedabad crowd went silent.

Maxwell was among the wickets in his first spell as well. Rohit went down the ground but the leading edge was caught by Travis Head in the 10th over. Rohit missed his half-century and scored 47 runs from 31 balls featuring four fours and three sixes.

Kohli became the first Indian to score a half-century in the semi-final and final of an ODI World Cup edition. He also became the seventh batter in the world to achieve this feat. The other six batters are England's Mike Brearley (1979), Australia's David Boon (1987), Pakistan's Javed Miandad (1992), Sri Lanka's Aravinda de Silva (1996), New Zealand's Grant Elliot (2015) and Steve Smith (2015).

Kohli also became the second Indian after Gautam Gambhir to score a half-century in a T20 World Cup and ODI World Cup final. Gambhir did it in the inaugural T20 World Cup 2007 final against Pakistan and the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka. Kohli scored a half-century against Sri Lanka in T20 World Cup 2014 and in the ODI World Cup 2023 final.
