Veteran Australian opener David Warner is just 25 runs away from becoming fourth batter to score 1,000 or more runs in T20 World Cups. Warner who made his T20I World Cup debut in the 2009 edition is likely to achieve the feat in the clash against Afghanistan in the Super 8 clash at Arnos Vale Ground, St Vincent.
 

Warner has 975 runs from 39 T20 World Cup games at an average of 27.08 and strike rate of 135.60. The left-handed batter has eight half-centuries at the marquee event.
 

The top spot is occupied by Virat Kohli who has 1,170 runs from 31 games at an average of 65 including 14 half-centuries. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is the latest entrant on the list with 1,039 runs from 43 games at an average of 33.51 including 10 half-centuries.
 

Former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene is another batter on the list. Jayawardene has scored 1,106 runs from 31 games at an average of 39.07 including one century and six fifties.

Other batters eyeing the feat

There are two more batters who have a chance to join the 1,000-run club in T20 World Cups. England captain Jos Buttler has 907 runs from 33 games at an average of 39.42 including one century and four fifties. The next batter on the list is Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan who has 842 runs from 41 innings at an average of 24.05 including four half-centuries.

Warner’s form in T20 World Cups 

Warner has been in good form of late. The southpaw has scored 169 runs from five innings at an average of 42.25 including two half-centuries.
 

Warner to go past Rizwan?

Warner may surpass Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan on the list of leading run-scorer in T20Is. Rizwan has 3,313 runs from 102 games at an average of 48.72 including one century and 29 fifties. Warner needs 46 more runs to surpass him and become sixth highest run-scorer in the format on the international stage. He has scored 3,268 runs from 108 games at an average of 34.04 including one century and 28 fifties.
