'Don't even want to watch World Cup...': Riyan Parag's bizarre answer on being asked to name top 4 in T20 WC 2024

Rajasthan Royals' star batter Riyan Parag expressed disappointment at being excluded from India's T20 World Cup squad, despite his impressive performances in IPL 2024. The Assam all-rounder impressed with consistent batting for RR throughout the season. However, the selectors opted for a different combination for the tournament being held in the USA and the Caribbean. This decision seems to have frustrated Parag. His recent comments before India's opening match against Ireland on June 5 in New York might attract criticism from Indian fans on social media.

Riyan Parag's disappointment at his World Cup snub was evident in his recent comments. He expressed a lack of interest in the ongoing tournament, declining to predict the top four.

Riyan Parag to stay away from T20 World Cup 2024

Parag stated that he wouldn't actively watch the matches and would only check the winner later. Moreover, his message to Team India solely offered good luck, lacking the usual enthusiasm from a player invested in the national team's success.

In a video posted by Bharat Army on social media platform X, Riyan Parag was asked to predict his top 4 teams of the T20 World Cup, to which he replied: 

"It will be a biased answer but to be very honest, I don't even want to watch the World Cup. I'll just see who's winning it at the end and I'll be happy. When I play the World Cup, then I'll think about top 4 and all of that.”

Parag also took a moment to express his continued admiration for Virat Kohli.

“I had always seen him, that 183. I had always seen that but then first year seeing him once he walked onto the ground. It was I think RCB, Chinnaswamy were playing a 5 over game. Actually, bowled one over there, I don't know how. So, him walking out in Chinnaswamy and everyone else walking out, I suddenly felt that difference, that aura he has. The aura he brings with him in the field, I think that's where I knew him,” he added.

Notably, Kohli's career-defining 183-run knock against Pakistan in the 2012 Asia Cup remains the highest score ever recorded in the tournament's history.

Kohli is currently busy gearing up for T20 World Cup 2024. Although, he didn't feature in India's T20 World Cup warm-up match against Bangladesh but will turn up for team's campaign opener versus Ireland on June 5.
