Disappointment hung heavy in the air after Rishabh Pant's dismissal in the high-pressure T20 World Cup Super 8 clash between India and Bangladesh on June 22. The star wicketkeeper-batsman's wicket came at a critical juncture, threatening to derail India's momentum. Earlier, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had gotten starts but failed to convert them into big scores. Kohli, the Indian skipper, reached 23 runs off a mere 11 balls before Shakib Al Hasan dismissed him. While Kohli finally crossed the 30-run mark for the first time in the tournament, his innings was short-lived, ending at 37 thanks to another delivery by Tanzim Hasan Sakib in the ninth over.
The same over saw another crucial wicket fall as Shakib dismissed the in-form Suryakumar Yadav cheaply, leaving India reeling at a precarious 77/3. The momentum had clearly shifted towards Bangladesh. However, Rishabh Pant, known for his aggressive batting, quickly turned the tide. He played some big shots in quick succession, driving the score past the 100-run mark and looking well-settled. Unfortunately, Pant's promising innings was cut short in the 12th over due to his own dismissal. He attempted a risky reverse sweep against Mustafizur Rahman but ended up sending the ball straight to the fielder at short third man, departing for 36 runs that included four boundaries and a staggering six sixes.
Virat Kohli left agitated after Pant's dismissal
Frustration was evident on Virat Kohli's face as he watched Rishabh Pant walk back to the pavilion. Cameras captured him muttering something out of disappointment before burying his face in a towel. Later, Kohli was seen having an animated conversation with Pant in the dugout.

Despite the setback, India managed to post a competitive total of 196 for 5 wickets in their 20 overs. Shivam Dube provided a valuable cameo of 34 runs, but it was Hardik Pandya's explosive knock that propelled India to a strong position. The vice-captain remained unbeaten on a blistering 50 off just 27 balls, his innings laced with four boundaries and three towering sixes.
Later, India ended up thrashing Bangladesh by 50 runs, riding on Kuldeep Yadav's three-fer.
