Sri Lanka add 5 more players to their T20 World Cup squad

The Sri Lankan cricket team has added five more players to their T20 World Cup squad. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) made this announcement today i.e., September 30, 2021. Pathum Nissanka, Minod Bhanuka, Ashen Bandara, Lakshan Sandakan, and Ramesh Mendis are the five players who have been added to the original squad of the Lankan team. Lahiru Madusanka who was previously included in the team has been omitted from the squad as he is recovering from an injury. The team will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Namibia in the first round of World Cup.

 

Few omissions
Dasun Shanka has been named as the captain of the Sri Lankan side. There are not many changes that have been made in the squad. Three players Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilaka, and Niroshan Dickwella have been left out from the squad as they were banned for breaching the COVID-19 protocols in England earlier this July. Bhanuka, who was keeping wickets in absence of Kusal Perera couldn’t make it into the main World Cup squad. They have also named four reserves who will travel with the squad as injury cover – Lahiru Kumara, Binura Fernando, Akila Dananjaya, and Pulina Tharanga.
