Legendary Sunil Gavaskar is overjoyed that ex-India skipper and NCA head Rahul Dravid has applied for the role of head coach of the Indian team. Gavaskar believes there is currently no better option to manage the Indian team.
Current India head coach Ravi Shastri is all set to end his tenure of India’s head coach after the on-going T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman.

There have been several reports about Dravid already been chosen for the chief role. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has denied the reports but Gavaskar believes Dravid's appointment is merely a formality now.
Gavaskar told Sports Tak/ Aaj Tak that after Dravid’s application for the job, there is no need for the Indian board to look out elsewhere.
"Undoubtedly. Anyone else doesn't need to apply, in my opinion. The way he has led the Under-19 squad, given them direction, and worked at the NCA demonstrates his talent not just on the field but also off it. He is also capable of doing administrative responsibilities. That is why I believe his application for the position is merely a formality."

Former bowler Madan Lal also called for Dravid’s appointment and highlighted the “calm demeanour” that the former India skipper possesses.
"As Sunny Bhai mentioned, he has already led India's A and Under-19 teams on numerous trips and has just coached the national squad in Sri Lanka, so when you start coaching from a junior level, you know the players that have gone through the ranks," Lal said.

"This is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened. He is the best candidate because he has worked his way up from the bottom. He has a calm demeanour and possesses a number of traits that will aid the Indian squad in reaching new heights " Lal further said.
Earlier, Dravid had travelled to Sri Lanka with a young Indian brigade as a temporary head coach. He is likely to take charge of the senior Indian side but the BCCI is yet to make an official announcement.
