India bowed out of Women’s World Cup 2022 with a narrow loss in their last league match against South Africa. Despite the ouster, Indian skipper Mithali Raj and fast bowler Jhulan Goswami gained a couple of spots in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's ODI rankings.

In the batter’s rankings, Mithali is now placed at sixth. She went past Australia's Rachael Haynes and England's Tammy Beaumont. Goswami now occupies the fifth spot in the bowling rankings. She went past South Africa's Marizanne Kapp and Ayabonga Khaka.

Mithali was not consistent enough in the tournament as she scored 182 runs from seven innings at an average of 26. She bagged a duck and two single-digit scores which weakened India's middle order. In the last league match, she contributed with a 68-run knock.

On the other hand, Jhulan took seven wickets from six matches she played. The highest wicket-taker in the format did not play the last league match against South Africa where India lost in a last-over thriller. Against Bangladesh, she registered impressive bowling figures of 2/19.

Jhulan was unimpressive with the bat though which led to a minor slip in the all-rounder’s rankings. She is now ranked 10th in the all-rounder rankings with 217 rating points to her name. She was overtaken by England's Katherine Brunt. All-rounder Deepti Sharma retained the seventh spot despite the last-over no ball against South Africa.

Opener Smriti Mandhana, who finished as India's highest run-scorer in the tournament, remained in the top 10. Smriti scored 327 runs from seven innings at an average of 327 including one century and two half-centuries.

There was a shuffle at the top of batter’s rankings as well. South African opener Laura Wolvaardt who has been dominating oppositions in the ongoing World Cup in New Zealand, surpassed Australia’s Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney to claim the top spot. Wolvaardt has scored 433 runs from seven innings at an average of 61.86 including five half-centuries.
