The final day of the World Test Championship (WTC) final began with millions of Indian cricket fans' hopes resting on the shoulders of Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane. With 280 runs required to clinch the title, it was believed that the dazzling duo will pull off the record-chase and overhaul the Australia's 444-run target but things went haywire and India choked under Australia's disciplined bowling.
A big innings was expected from Kohli Day 5, but just when he was one run away from scoring his first fifty in the WTC final, Scott Boland drew first blood on the ultimate day and bagged the most prized wicket. India’s hopes were dashed as Virat Kohli edged a wide ball from Boland in the 47th over.
On the third ball of the 46th over, Kohli edged Boland's ripping delivery and Steve Smith, who doesn't anything off Kohli, pulled off a stunning catch at slip. Boland struck again two balls later to pile misery on India as star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja feathered an edge which landed straight into Alex Carey's gloves.
Kohli's wife Anushka Sharma, who was present at the Oval stands to cheer for Team India, was left shell shocked and stunned after witness husband's dismissal as cameras captured the heartbreaking moment.

Post Kohli and Jadeja's dismissal nothing went in India's favour as their only hope Ajinkya Rahane, who looked in good touch, nicked Mitchell Starc's ball in the in the 56th over to leave Indian cricket fans gutted, devastated. India went on to lose the match 209 runs and their 10-year-old quest to put hands on ICC trophy once again was halted.
