India opener Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer shared a crucial partnership to help the visitors recover from early wickets. While they played out the new ball, there was confusion over their calls for quick singles. The incident took place in the 14th over of the innings when Josh Hazlewood’s delivery hit Rohit high on the pads and he wanted a single, especially because the pacer was tired, bowling his seventh over on the trot.
Here’s how the conversation went -
Rohit: Shreyas, this was a single.
Iyer: Aap karke dekho, mereko mat bolo na phir (You call, don't look at me).
Rohit: You will have to call first, then. He (Hazlewood) is bowling the seventh over.
Iyer: I don’t know the angle he is running at. Give the call.
Rohit: I can't give you that call.
Iyer: It's in front of you
Rohit: *nods head*

Pathan lauds Rohit's call
"That's where experience comes into play. He has bowled 7 straight overs. So obviously, he will be tired. Both are making a comeback into the ODIs. They could have taken a run here," the former India pace-bowling all-rounder said.
Rohit, Iyer’s partnership
India were 17/2 in the seventh over when Iyer walked in to bat. Xavier Bartlett had dismissed Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli in his first over. Both the batters took their time in the middle as there was assistance on offer for pacers. Rohit and Iyer put on 118 runs from the third wicket. The partnership was broken by left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc. He went for the pull shot but was caught by Hazlewood in the deep. He departed after scoring 73 runs from 97 balls. A few overs later, Iyer dragged one on to his stumps as he failed to pick leg-spinner Adam Zampa. The vice-captain scored 61 runs from 67 balls.
After Rohit and Iyer departed, Axar Patel scored 44 runs from 41 balls. Later in the innings, Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh's 37-run partnership from 29 balls helped the visitors post 264/9.
