Australia captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to bowl first in the first T20I of the five-T20I series at Manuka Oval, Canberra on October 29.
“We are going to bowl first. Looks like a good wicket, always is a nice wicket when we come here. It's exciting. All teams now pushing their bill towards the World Cup. 11 players, few batters, bowlers and all-rounders (smiles),” Marsh said after winning the toss.
Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of first three T20Is due to the left quadriceps injury during the second ODI. Suryakumar Yadav has shown trust in Harshit Rana’s batting ability and slotted him at no.8. Also, Kuldeep Yadav has retained his place in the playing eleven. As a result, Arshdeep Singh is stting out. The other three players benched are Rinku Singh, Washington Sundar and Jitesh Sharma.
“We wanted to bat first as the wicket could get slightly slower as the game goes on. They know what is to be done, know the roles really well. Big headache, good headache to have. Guys missing out are, Rinku, Washi, Jitesh, Arshdeep and Nitish,” Suryakumar said at the coin toss.
"Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out for the first three T20Is. The all-rounder who was recovering from his left quadriceps injury sustained during the second ODI in Adelaide, complained of neck spasms, which has impacted his recovery and mobility. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress," the BCCI said in a statement.
