Story Highlights:

Rohit Sharma admitted Australia are one of the toughest oppositions

Rohit was India's match-winner in the third ODI against Australia

After India's win over the Aussies in the third and final ODI at the SCG, star Indian batter Rohit Sharma praised the passion for cricket Down Under. Rohit himself was the star of the match in the third ODI, delivering an unbeaten century to rally India to a commanding nine-wicket win after losing the first two games. After having a torrid start to the series, Rohit turned it all around in the last two. After notching just 8 in the opener in Perth, the 38-year-old cracked a gritty 73 in the second ODI, but couldn't save India from losing to Australia, which also cost them the series. He then ran riot with the bat and tonked an unscathed 121 to take India past the target without breaking a sweat. Virat Kohli played the second fiddle and contributed with an unbeaten 74 in India's win.

You always have to work really really hard against Australia: Rohit Sharma

Talking about Australian mentality, Rohit said that they have been India's tough opposition over the years and it gives him immense joy to compete with them.

“They are a tough opposition as we have seen over the years, the way they play their cricket, they really enjoy their cricket, they really enjoy being out there in the middle and it is nice to compete with guys like these. They never let anything come to you easy, you always have to work really really hard for it. Being here, and playing with the guys so many times it is very important to stand up and get the best out of whatever experience that you have against these guys," Rohit said while speaking on BCCI TV.

“They are a quality team, there is no doubt about that. Unfortunately we couldn’t win the series but I think it is still relatively a very young team a lot of the guys haven’t been here playing white-ball cricket and we take a lot of positives from here especially Harshit Rana who’s been playing white-ball cricket for the first time in Australia, the way he bowled in both the games, Perth was obviously a shortened game but looking at how he bowled in Adelaide and also Sydney it was a fantastic effort from the team," he added.

The crowd never disappoints in Australia: Rohit

After the game, Rohit thanked the Australian crowd for turning out in large numbers to witness them. He also extended his best wishes to the Indian side slated to take on Australia in the subsequent T20 series set to follow.

“In Australia, the crowd never disappoints, they come out in large numbers to watch cricket because with two good teams playing they want to watch quality cricket, and that is what you get with these two teams. Unfortunately, we couldn’t cross the line but we enjoy coming here and playing here and really grateful to the crowd for their support throughout Australia they have been superb and I hope they continue to do that we’ve got the T20 series coming up and I hope to continue to do that with each one of them who are going to represent the country, its a great ocassion and I wish them the best," Hitman concluded.

Rohit will next be seen in action in the ODI series against South Africa, which is slated to start from November 30. Meanwhile, India are currently gearing up for the T20I series against Australia, starting from October 29.
