'Runs will eventually come...': India captain Suryakumar Yadav defends his form ahead of Australia T20I series

India captain Suryakumar Yadav opened up on his poor form in T20Is ahead of the five-match series against Australia. The 35-year-old has failed to post a 50+ score in the format for over a year now and hasn't been able to contribute much with the bat in multiple assignments. 2025 has so far been a forgettable year for Suryakumar as he has only managed to score a total of 100 runs in 11 innings.

Though the team has flourished under his captaincy and are yet to lose a series ever since he took over in July, 2024, Suryakumar himself has had a big dip in his form. With the series against Australia right around the corner, Suryakumar opened up on his struggles with the bat and expressed confidence in improving his form.

"I feel like I have been working really hard, before also I was doing it, it is not that I was not working hard. I've had a few good sessions back home, good 2-3 sessions here, so I am in a good space, I think that is really important. Runs, it will come eventually, but working hard towards a team goal, that's more important," Suryakumar said in the pre-match press-conference.

Suryakumar's hint at bowling combination

Suryakumar further hinted at the bowling combination that the team may use for the Australia T20I series and stated that they may opt to go for a balance of pace and spin, keeping in mind of the conditions.

"I don't think that our combination changes too much with conditions. If you see, when we played in South Africa, over there we played one fast bowler, one all-rounder, and three spinners. Conditions are similar over here, some bouncy tracks," Suryakumar stated.

Meanwhile, the five-match T20I series between India and Australia is set to commence from October 29. The first game of the assignment will be held at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.
