Shubman Gill remarked that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's stellar knocks to help him register his first victory as India's captain in ODIs. The Men in Blue comfortably defeated Australia by 9 wickets in the third ODI to end the series on a positive note. Rohit and Virat were undoubtedly the architects of this win as they formed a humongous stand of 168 runs which saw their side easily chase down the target of 237 with 69 deliveries left to spare.
Following the conclusion of the match, Gill not only praised the duo of Rohit and Kohli, but was also impressed with the side's bowling display during the match. He added that it was a delight to watch Rohit and Virat roll back the years and win the match for India.
"We had a near-perfect game. Pulled things back in the middle overs. Chase was pleasing to see. Our spinners contained in the middle and pacers took key wickets. Harshit's bowled fast in the middle overs, we need that quality. Rohit, Kohli have done it for so many years. Delight to watch. Special win (first as ODI captain) on a special ground,' Gill said in the post-match presentation.
India's stellar performance against Australia
India gave a brilliant all-round display in the third and final match of the series to cap off the assignment on a high. They first bundled out Australia for 237 runs with Harshit Rana being the star performer and recording figures of 4/39. Washington Sundar racked up two scalps while the likes of Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel chipped in with a wickket each as the Men in Blue performed brilliantly with the ball.
Gill's poor display in Australia ODIs
Meanwhile, Gill didn't have a series to remember and was only able to score a total of 43 runs in the three ODIs against Australia. The opposing bowlers got the better of the 26-year-old rather easily and he lost his wicket for cheap in each of his three innings. He will be hoping to improve his form in India's next ODI assignments.
The Men in Blue's next one-day assignment will be a three-match home series against South Africa that will commence from November 30. This will be their final ODI series of the year before they head to New Zealand next year in January for another threee-match series.
