Virat Kohli vs Sam Konstas: Know everything about the heated altercation from Boxing Day Test

The young star Sam Konstas got into heated altercations with legendary batter Virat Kohli. Konstas and Kohli were even seen smashing shoulders as they walked past each other during the opening session of the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Melbourne.

This all started when Konstas stepped out for the first time against Siraj but failed to make a connection, the Indian pacer was seen throwing a couple of words at the young debutant. Konstas later did the same thing and this time able to find a connection but could not score runs. Siraj was once again seen saying some words towards the youngsters while camera even showed Kohli giving a stare to him. Konstas was not holding back in any manner, on the very next ball, he smashed a boundary and answered with both words and bat to Siraj.

Kohli and Konstas bumped into each other with clashing shoulders and were seen in an almost heated exchange with Usman Khawaja and umpires intervening before things could escalate further.

Konstas talked about the altercation with Virat Kohli during the morning session's drinks break and said "Whatever happens on the field stays on the field. I just love competing and it doesn't get any better for a debut than this packed stadium."

Sam Konstas made a roaring debut during the Boxing Day Test and played a 60-run knock before getting dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja. His audacious scoop and ramp shots against Jasprit Bumrah were the highlight of the day.

Andy Pycroft, the match referee, will undoubtedly investigate the situation. The player would be docked three or four demerit points if Pycroft determined that the Konstas-Kohli touch was a Level Two offence. The ICC's Code of Conduct states that "any form of inappropriate physical contact is prohibited in cricket. Without limitation, players will breach this regulation if they deliberately, recklessly and/or negligently walk or run into or shoulder another player or umpire".

Ex-Test umpire Simon Taufel believes that both Konstas and Kohli will most likely be able to escape suspension despite the heated episode. He said "We don't want to see any physical contact during the game. It tends to get out-of-control. A lot of adrenaline flowing. Sam Konstas holding his ground. Virat Kohli did the same thing. It's something out of nothing. We don't want to see it continue. It's something they'll have a look at during maybe a lunch break or even at the end of the day's play. I tend to think they'll let that one go. That's my view at this stage. Let the players say what they want to say. Get a few things off their chest. At times if it goes further, they'll probably let that one slide.
