India's pace-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was once again among wickets in the first session of Day 2 of the third Test at The Gabba, Brisbane. As Bumrah was troubling Australian batters, cricketer-turned-commentator Harbhajan Singh praised him while recalling a hilarious interview of former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal. Harbhajan said, 'Bumrah is science, man!' in the commentary box.
"What is science?" asked his fellow commentator and presenter Jatin Sapru.
"I was watching an interview of Saeed Ajmal with Khawajaji (Usman). He was talking about science in that interview and said, ''What is science, man? Science is the man.'" Harbhajan elaborated.
"He is a big scientist. Bumrah's work starts where science fails. He knows where to pitch the ball. This is art. Khawajaji has no idea how to play him. Amazing, this bowler is different. The stats prove how big a player he is," he added as Bumrah dismissed McSweeney.
Harbhajan called Bumrah wonderful as he set up McSweeney nicely and managed to get an outside edge off his bat that went straight to second slip fielder Virat Kohli. McSweeney departed after scoring nine runs from 49 deliveries. Before dismissing McSweeney, he dismissed Usman Khawaja as well. The left-handed batter edged one to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. The experienced opener scored 21 runs from 54 balls.
McSweeney, Khawaja's struggles
This was the fourth time McSweeney has been outsmarted by Bumrah in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The young opener has played 52 balls against Bumrah, scored 12 runs and lost his wicket four times. Meanwhile, an out-of-form Khawaja has been dismissed by right-arm pacers for the fourth time in the series.
While McSweeney is new to Test cricket, Khawaja has been in poor form in the 2024. He has just one half-century and no centuries in the year. While he aims to play another Ashes for Australia, this might be his last series if he doesn't score. The second innings of Gabba Test will be crucial for the 37-year-old, especially when youngster Sam Konstas is knocking on selectors' doors.
Bumrah dominates Australian openers
Bumrah has an exceptional record against Australian openers in the ongoing series. From 121 balls, he has had seven dismissals at an average of 4.28.
