This was Virat Kohli's 30th Test century.

Virat Kohli silenced his critics and etched his name in cricket history with a solid century in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Perth. After a long wait, he finally reached the three-figure mark, surpassing the legendary Don Bradman's record for most Test centuries by an Indian batter in Australia.

India's batting maestro was in his element, bringing his century in 143 balls. Following his 81st international century, Kohli subtly addressed his critics, stating that he is not someone who would linger in the sport without contributing meaningfully. He also didn't forget to credit his wife Anushka Sharma who stood by him through his thick and thin.

"Anushka has been right by my side through thick and thin. She knows everything that goes on behind the scenes. Knows what goes on in the head when you're not performing well. I'm not a guy who hangs around for the sake of it. I take pride in performing for the country," Virat Kohli told Adam Gilchrist while returning to the pavilion after the Day 3 stumps.

Virat Kohli faced immense pressure to perform well in the Test series against Australia, following a disappointing series against New Zealand. In the previous series, he had managed to score a mere 93 runs across six innings, contributing to India's first home Test series defeat in 12 years.

After a disappointing first innings where he scored only 5 runs, Virat Kohli made a remarkable comeback at the Perth Cricket Ground, the same venue where he had established himself as a force in Test cricket 12 years ago.

In this innings, Kohli broke several records. He now holds the record for the most centuries scored by a visiting batsman in Australia across all formats. Additionally, he is the Asian batsman with the most Test centuries in Australia.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, another Indian batting sensation, contributed significantly to the team's total with a brilliant 161 runs off 297 balls. Thanks to the exceptional performances of Kohli and Jaiswal, India declared their innings at a formidable score of 487/6, setting Australia a challenging target of 534 runs.

Australia's chase got off to a poor start as they lost early wickets of Nathan McSweeney and Pat Cummins. McSweeney was dismissed in the very first over, prompting Cummins to come out as the nightwatchman.
