After the Jasprit Bumrah-led Indian cricket team was bowled out for just 150 runs in the first inning of the Perth Test, everyone thought the visitors would be continuing their woeful run from the home Test series against New Zealand in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as well. However, they proved everyone wrong and hammered the Aussies by a massive margin of 295 runs at the Optus Stadium, on November 25 (Monday).
Bumrah's message to team after 150 all out
After the match, India's stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah was asked about his message to the team after they were bowled out for 150 runs in the first inning. The premium pacer revealed that he was backing on their experience here and told everyone to have faith in their ability.
"Very happy. We were put under pressure in the first innings, but the way we responded was great. I played here in 2018 - I remember the wicket started soft. This one was less spicy, we were really well prepared. I told everyone to keep faith in your ability. Jaiswal's best Test innings so far, he left the ball well, I didn't see Virat out of form - difficult to judge that on difficult pitches. But he was good in the nets. We always enjoy the support from the crowd, when the backing is there we feel good," said Bumrah in the post-match presentation.
Bumrah was also awarded with Player of the Match award for his astonishing performance with the ball. He took 8 wickets across two innings which also included a five-wicket haul in the first inning that played a major role in bowling out the Aussies on a paltry score of 104. It provided India with a 46-run lead heading into the second innings.
Indian back on top of WTC points table
India gave Australia a massive target of 534 runs for the final innings with the help of centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli along with a crucial fifty from KL Rahul. Later Indian bowlers wreaked havoc again and bowled out the hosts for 238 in the final innings. Travis Head with 89 was the sole fighter for the side.
With this win, India have now become the first visiting team to register a Test victory at Perth's Optus Stadium. They have also regained the top spot on the WTC points table. Aussies on the other hand have fallen to the second spot.
