The second Test between India and Australia witnessed a bizarre incident during the Day 1's play in Adelaide on December 6. The third session of the opening day's game at the Adelaide Oval was briefly disrupted by a technical glitch. The floodlights at the stadium malfunctioned, causing a short interruption to the game.
Floodlight failure interrupts IND vs AUS 2nd Test
The consecutive floodlight malfunction happened during the 18th over of Australia's first innings when Indian pacer Harshit Rana was preparing to bowl. The lights went out, forcing a brief pause in play.
However, after a two-minute delay, the lights were restored. However, they malfunctioned again just a few deliveries later. Marnus Labuschagne and Nathan McSweeney were the Australian batters at the crease at the time of the second interruption.
This isn't the first instance of floodlight failures disrupting a pink-ball Test match. During India's inaugural pink-ball Duleep Trophy match in 2016, held in Greater Noida, a similar incident led to a lengthy one-hour interruption in play.
Australia dominate India in 2nd Test
Australia made a strong start to the second Test, dismissing India for 180 runs just before tea on the first day. Mitchell Starc, who picked up a career-best figure of 6/48, was the star performer for the Australian bowling attack. Nitish Kumar Reddy was India's top scorer with 42 runs. In response, Australia made a cautious start, losing opener Usman Khawaja to Jasprit Bumrah for just 13 runs.
India's first innings in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the Adelaide Oval ended on a disappointing note as they were bowled out for 180 runs on Friday, December 6th. Mitchell Starc was the standout bowler for Australia, claiming a remarkable 6/48 in 14.1 overs.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, India got off to a disastrous start as Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed by Starc on the very first ball of the match. KL Rahul and Shubman Gill steadied the ship with a 69-run partnership, but Starc's return to the attack disrupted India's momentum, removing Rahul and shifting the momentum in Australia's favor.
Virat Kohli's stay at the crease was brief, as he was dismissed by Mitchell Starc for just seven runs. Scott Boland, a new addition to the Australian team, made an immediate impact, dismissing the well-set Shubman Gill and captain Rohit Sharma in quick succession. Rishabh Pant and Nitish Reddy formed a brief partnership, but it was short-lived as Pant was dismissed by Pat Cummins for 21 runs. R Ashwin provided some valuable support to Reddy, scoring 22 runs, before being trapped LBW by Starc. Starc continued his destructive spell, cleaning up Harshit Rana. However, Nitish Reddy fought back with a counter-attacking innings, scoring 42 runs before eventually falling victim to Starc.
