Bowling legend Lasith Malinga lavished praise on India's ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah for his performance in on Day 1 of the ongoing first Test match against Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The 30-year-old speedster is currently in the form of his life. In his recent outing in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 first Test he picked up four wickets leaving Australia reeling at 67/7 on Day 1.
Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga are the part of same Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians (MI). Lasith Malinga is currently the bowling coach of five-time champions. The former Sri Lanka speedster took his 'X' formerly known as Twitter to hail India's stand in skipper.
Coming back to the match, after getting all-out on 150 Indian bowlers were off to a fiery start with debutant Nathan McSweeney, becoming the first to fall, bowled by Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah at the score of 10. The scoreboard read 14/1 at that point. After debutant, Bumrah again picked up two consecutive wickets Usman Khawaja and Steven Smith which left Australia at 19/3.
After bundling out India at 150, the Australian innings started on a shaky note with debutant Nathan McSweeney, becoming the first to fall, bowled by Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah at the score of 10. The scoreboard read 14/1 at that point.
Travis Head tried to counter-attack against the fiery Indian attack, hitting two boundaries, but his stay was cut short at the score of 11, as Harshit Rana, rattled his stumps, making his debut memorable. Australia were now 31/4.
Mitchell Marsh's stay at the crease was short-lived, as he managed only 6 runs before falling to Mohammed Siraj, leaving Australia struggling at 38/5. Marnus Labuschagne, despite showing resilience, couldn’t make a significant impact and was dismissed by Siraj for 2 off 52 balls, deepening Australia’s troubles.
Australia’s fifty came up in 23.4 overs, underscoring the Indian bowlers’ complete control. The final dismissal of the day was skipper Pat Cummins, who scored just 3 runs before being removed by Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah.
At the close of play on Day 1, Australia was reeling at 67/7, with Alex Carey (19*) and Mitchell Starc (6*) holding the fort and facing a daunting task on Day 2.
