Jasprit Bumrah is currently leading Team India in Australia in the Perth Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 as the regular captain Rohit Sharma is currently on paternity leave spending time with his family in Mumbai.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul could not score in the first two overs by Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, with a four coming through byes.

Jaiswal, lured into a drive-by Starc, edged the ball to debutant McSweeney at gully, leaving India at 5/1 in 2.1 overs.

KL Rahul was then joined by Devdutt Padikkal, playing his maiden Test in Australia following a single Test appearance at home against England. The pair displayed caution, but Padikkal's resistance ended when he edged a delivery from Josh Hazlewood to wicketkeeper Carey, departing for a 23-ball duck. India found themselves at 14/2 after 11 overs.

Virat Kohli walked in to loud applause, but his innings was cut short as Hazlewood generated extra bounce, forcing an edge to Usman Khawaja in the slips. Kohli's struggles continued as he departed for just five, leaving India in trouble at 32/3. Debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy was the highest run-getter for India scoring 41 runs.
