Former India captain Harbhajan Singh is confident that the Rohit Sharma-led side will seal their berth for the World Test Championship (WTC) final which will take place in England next year. If Team India manages to qualify for the WTC final then this will be the third consecutive final for India.
Team India under Jasprit Bumrah's captaincy registered a 295-run dominating win in the first Test in Perth. After India's massive win in the opener Test, Harbhajan reckoned that defeating Australia in Perth is very difficult. He also hopes that the Men in Blue will win this five-Test match series series 4-1.
“If they win another game, I think India will definitely go into the WTC (final) but it’s not important to reach there, it’s important to win we will reach there,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying by News18.
“It was (the) most important win for India because Perth has always been a very happy hunting ground for Australia. To beat them in their backyard is always very difficult, but this is a ground where the happiness of winning doubles because here they (Australia) consider themselves (to be) very strong at this venue. So, well done to team India. I hope this will continue and India (would) go on to win this series 4-1,” he added.
The 2011 ODI World Cup winner lavished praise on Bumrah for his captaincy and mindset. He said that Bumrah knows the game and when a person like him leads a team from the front everyone follows.
“Bumrah is an amazing player, and of course, he has got a great mindset. I have been a huge supporter of Bumrah from day one and he has got that very calm kind of personality. He knows his game and he is one of those guys who is a very likeable person in the dressing room. He commands a lot of respect in the dressing room so when such a person leads you from the front, the team obviously follows,” he said.
For the upcoming second Test match, India's regular Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma has joined the squad and he will lead the team from the second Test match which is scheduled to start from December 6 to 10. India need to register 4-0 win in the ongoing series to feature in the WTC final without depending on other teams' outcomes.
