Michael Vaughan wants India to be wary of Pat Cummins in Adelaide Test

The second Test between India and Australia is set to start from December 6

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 is shaping up to be a critical series for Pat Cummins and the Australian cricket team. After a humiliating 295-run defeat in the first Test in Perth, the upcoming Day-Night Test in Adelaide is seen as a crucial opportunity for the Australians to turn the series around.

Cummins's captaincy and bowling performances are under intense scrutiny, as he faces the challenge of leading his team to victory against a formidable Indian side. The Australian team's unbeaten streak at the Perth Stadium was broken by India's dominant performance in the first Test. India secured a historic 295-run victory, taking a 1-0 lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

All eyes on Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins, the Australian captain, faced criticism for his bowling performance and questionable field placements. While former England captain Michael Vaughan praised Cummins as a top-class captain and bowler, he also acknowledged that Cummins's performance in the Perth Test was below his usual standards.

Vaughan noted that Cummins's extended break from red-ball cricket since March might have contributed to his rusty performance in Perth. However, he believes that the upcoming pink-ball Test in Adelaide provides an ideal opportunity for Cummins to regain his form and showcase his world-class abilities.

With valuable match practice under his belt, Vaughan is optimistic that Cummins will return to his best form, both as a bowler and a leader. He predicts that Cummins will be a force to be reckoned with in the Adelaide Test, potentially delivering a stunning performance with the pink ball.

Michael Vaughan's big words for Pat Cummins ahead of Adelaide Test

The stage is set for a thrilling contest under the lights, and all eyes are on Cummins to lead his team to victory. Vaughan is confident that Cummins's experience and resilience will be key to Australia's success in the Adelaide Test.

“He’s (Pat Cummins) a world-class performer, a brilliant captain, and a brilliant bowler. But the one thing I’ll say is he did look short of a gallop in the First Test. He’d not been playing any cricket. He had not played any longer format cricket since March,” Michael Vaughan said on Fox Cricket’s podcast The Follow On.

“So, I would think this week in Adelaide, he will be up on his pace because of what he did last week. I think the First Test will be good for him. He’s got some overs back into his body, into his mind, playing the longer format back into his system, and I think he’ll be better for it. Pace is a lot for Pat Cummins. If he is down to 135 (or so), I think he it gives the batters that extra little bit of time to adjust to the movement and the accuracy that he produces,” he further added.
