Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 due to a strain in his left side.
“Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of the match with a low grade left side injury,” said Cricket Australia.
“Hazlewood will remain with the group in Adelaide to prepare for the remainder of the series.”
Cricket Australia have called in two uncapped pacers -- Sean Abbott and Brendan Doggett.
Hazlewood has been in good form. He claimed four wickets for 29 runs in 13 overs to help Australia bowl out Inida for 150 in the first innings of Perth Test. In the second innings, he bagged just one wicket but did not give away easy runs. He conceded 28 runs from 21 overs and bowled nine maidens.
In Hazlewood's absence, Scott Boland is likely to play in the pink-ball Test scheduled to begin on December 6 at Adelaide Oval. Boland is leading the pace attack for Prime Minister's XI in the two-day warm-up game at Manuka Oval, Canberra against Indian side.
The 35-year-old has played two Tests against India taking five wickets. The last time Boland played a Test in Adelaide was in 2022 against West Indies. He took three wickets for 45 runs.
As announced by skipper Pat Cummins, the Australian squad will assemble in Adelaide one day early to prepare for the second Test after a humiliating 295-run defeat in the series opener.
Hazlewood's massive feat in Adelaide
The last time India and Australia played a pink-ball Test in Adelaide, the tourists were bowled out for a record-breaking 36. Hazlewood was the wrecker-in-chief with a five-wicket haul.
