MLC 2025: Klaasen, Warner fail again as Seattle Orcas bowled out for their lowest score of 60, lose to Texas Super Kings by 93 runs

Life after retirement from international cricket has not been easy for Heinrich Klaasen so far. After a comprehensive five-wicket defeat to defending champions Washington Freedom, Seattle Orcas were bowled out for 60 in 13.5 overs by Texas Super Kings. Seattle Orcas registered their lowest score in Major League Cricket (MLC) and lost the match by a huge margin of 93 runs. 

Seattle Orcas' epic collapse

In the run chase of 154, Kyle Mayers was the first to fall. Nandre Burger dismissed him for a five-ball duck. After Burger's wicket-maiden, Zia-ul-Haq got the wicket of David Warner for a single-digit score. Burger in his second over dismissed Steven Taylor.  In his third over, Zia-ul-Haq knocked over Klaasen and then got rid of Sikandar Raza as well. Seattle Orcas were reduced to 21 for 5 in five overs. 

Noor Ahmad was introduced into the attack and he got Sujit Nayak and Harmeet Singh out lbw off consecutive deliveries. Aaron Jones hit two sixes, the only batter do it in Seattle Orcas' innings. Jones became Marcus Stoinis' victim for a run-a-ball 17 in the 10th over. Noor continued to trap batters in front of the stumps. Obed McCoy became his third victim. Jessy Singh tried to play out all the overs but Burger returned to wrap up the innings. Jessy scored 12 runs from 26 balls. Seattle Orcas were bundled out for 60 in 13.5 overs. This is also the third-lowest score in MLC history.

Texas Super Kings make up for poor start

Earlier, Klaasen won the toss and opted to bowl first. McCoy and Jessy got rid of skipper Faf Du Plessis and Devon Conway respectively. Texas Super Kings had 30 runs on the board after powerplay overs. Saiteja Mukkamalla took the responsibility to accelerate. He scored 30 runs from 23 balls before falling to Harmeet in the 12th over. Stoinis launched a few sixes into the stands.

Meanwhile, Daryl Mitchell's catch was dropped off Raza's bowling. Waqar Salamkheil in his last over ended Stoinis' cameo. The Australian all-rounder hit four sixes in his 12-ball 28. Harmeet also got the wicket of Mitchell who scored 25 runs from 26 balls. Calvin Savage could not do damage with the bat and became Jessy's second victim. In the last two overs Shubham Ranjane (8-ball 15) and Milind Kumar's (13-ball 18) unbeaten cameos helped Texas Super Kings post 153/6.

How MLC 2025 points table stacks up

With a heavy defeat, Seattle Orcas found themselves at the bottom of the points table. MI New York and Los Angeles Knight Riders have not won a single game either but have a better net run rate (NRR). Texas Super Kings registered their third win in a row and are placed second on the points table, below San Francisco Unicorns who they face on June 20 at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas. Before that, Seattle Orcas will take on MI New York on June 18 in search of their first win.
