India stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah lavished massive praise on India's batting great Virat Kohli after he smashed his 30 Test ton in Perth during the first Test match against Australia. Bumrah who was awarded player of the match for his eight-wicket haul reckoned that Team India needs Kohli considering his experience of the game.
Fans and former cricketers raised a lot of questions about Kohli when the modern-day great failed to perform during his last two Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand but he responded to all his critics with a century in the second inning. Bumrah was leading India for the second time and this was India's first win in his leadership.
"Virat Kohli doesn't need us, we need him. He knows what he needs to here, the best. He has batted in touch scenarios all his life..he is in great space. He got a good delivery in the first innings. We needed an experienced batter in the second innings and he delivered" said Jasprit Bumrah in press conference.
The ongoing Test series is important for Men in Blue to seal their spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final which will take place in England next year. India needs to register 4-0 win in the five-test match series to confirm the berth in the WTC Final without depending on the other team's outcomes.
India regians number one spot in the WTC points table
After getting all-out on 1509 runs, India gave Australia a big target of 534 runs in the second innings with the help of India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal who smashed his maiden Test ton on Australian soil and Virat Kohli who smashed his 30th Test century. While chasing the defending World Test Champions failed to score against Indian bowlers as they bundled out on just 238 in the fourth inning. With this dominating win, India now become the first visiting team to register a Test victory at Perth's Optus Stadium.
