India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was back to breaking records during the fourth day of the Edgbaston Test against England. The 27-year-old came out to bat after India lost KL Rahul for 52 runs in the 30th over, leaving them on 126/3. As soon as he joined skipper Shubman Gill on the field, Pant started smashing England bowlers all around the stadium without any hesitation.
Pant finished the first session unbeaten on 41
The left-hand batter remained unbeaten on 41 runs from 35 deliveries as the first session came to an end. Pant has so far hit five boundaries and two sixes in his fiery knock and will be looking to continue scoring runs in explosive fashion when he takes the crease again. This knock was enough for him to break a massive world record as he became the player to hit the most sixes in a single country in Test cricket.
Pant has now scored 22 maximums in red-ball cricket in England, overtaking Ben Stokes, who has a total of 21 maximums under his name in South Africa. The 27-year-old hit nine sixes in the first Test against England at Headingley where he also scored centuries in both the innings and became the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to do so.
Meanwhile, India currently stand on 177/3 following the end of the first session on Day 4. While Pant is unbeaten on 45, Gill is batting on 24. The Men in Blue have so far taken a lead of 357 runs and will certainly be looking to add many more runs on the board as they return to bat for the second session.
England managed to take two wickets during the session as Brydon Carse dismissed Karun Nair for 26 runs before Josh Tongue got his second scalp of the inning by sending KL Rahul back to the dugout for a gritty 52. It will certainly be interesting to see how far will the Indian batters manage to take their lead. They will be trying to take it atleast over the 500-run mark so that England batters have a daunting task on their hands once they step out to chase the humongous target in the final inning of the match.
