Amidst the reports of Sanju Samson's Rajasthan Royals' (RR) potential exit, the star wicketkeeper-batter has landed a historic deal in the Kerala Premier League (KPL) 2025 auction. India T20I opener Sanju Samson has signed with the Kochi Blue Tigers for the second edition of the Kerala Premier League. His entry into the league was marked by a record-breaking deal, as he became the most expensive player in the league's history. Against a base price of Rs 3 lakh, Samson was acquired for an impressive sum of Rs 26.80 lakh, with Kochi Blue Tigers dedicating more than half of their total purse of Rs 50 lakh to secure the star player.

The Kerala Premier League is slated to take place from August 21 to September 6. While there are no conflicting T20I fixtures for the Indian national team during this window, Samson's full participation in the tournament remains uncertain. He could potentially miss a significant portion of the league if he is selected for one of the squads in the Duleep Trophy. The prestigious domestic red-ball tournament is set to begin on August 28, and Samson had previously represented India D in the competition.
Other notable acquisitions in the Kerala Premier League include Kerala batsman Vishnu Vinod, who has prior IPL experience and was bought by Aries Kollam for Rs 13.8 lakh. Veteran domestic cricketer Jalaj Saxena, who has played for India A, was secured by Alleppey Ripples for Rs 12.4 lakh.
In related news, speculation surrounding Samson's IPL future has been rife. Recent reports from Cricbuzz suggest that the five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are interested in signing Samson if he becomes available. Social media has also been active with discussions about a potential move from the Rajasthan Royals to CSK, a transfer that could only materialize through a trade before or after the IPL 2026 mini-auction. Samson has a long history with the Rajasthan Royals, having first joined them in 2013 and later being re-signed in the 2018 mega-auction. He has been leading the franchise as captain since the 2021 season.
"We are definitely looking at Sanju. He is an Indian batter, who is a keeper and an opener. So if he is available, we will certainly have a look at the option of having him in our fold. Who we will trade him with we have not taken that call because the matter has not gone that far. But yes, in principle, we are interested," a CSK official said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.
