After India got bundled out for 471 on the second day of the Headingley Test against England, it was star pacer Jasprit Bumrah who once again stole the show with a brilliant bowling display. The 31-year-old finished the day with figures of 3/48 in 13 overs and was the only Indian bowler to pick up wickets. England wrapped up the day on 209/3 with Ollie Pope scoring a sensational hundred and Ben Duckett scoring a gritty fifty.
Bumrah provided India with a huge relief just a few deliveries before the end of the day and took the huge wicket of Joe Root. Despite picking up three big scalps, the pacer also was quite unlucky at times as a total of three catches were dropped by the Indian fielders while he was bowling. He could have ended up with even more scalps under his name if it weren't for a poor fielding display.
Following the conclusion of Day 2, sidelined England pacer Mark Wood made a massive claim and labelled Bumrah as the best bowler in the world, adding that he has the ability to change the course of the game at any moment.
"He's a phenomenal bowler in all formats and extremely dangerous. I can honestly say he's very difficult to pick and face. He's quicker than he looks. Right now, he's the best bowler in the world-and he's capable of changing the course of a match at any moment," Wood told Sky Sports.
Wood may make his Test return in the series against India
Wood, who underwent knee surgery earlier this year in March, was initially expected to miss the entire five-match Test series against India. However, the 35-year-old recently revealed on BBC's Test Match Special that he has resumed bowling in the nets and can potentially feature in the ongoing series.
Meanwhile, Bumrah dismissed the likes of Zak Crawley (4), Ben Duckett (62) and Joe Root (28) during the second day and had England batters under pressure during almost all of his overs. However, other than him, none of the Indian bowlers were able to deliver and that is why the hosts ended up scoring plenty of runs in the 49 overs they played. The Indian bowling contingent will definitely be looking to improve their performance on the third day of the Test in Leeds.
