Joe Root fell prey to Jasprit Bumrah yet again in Tests

India's Jasprit Bumrah once again turned England's Joe Root's nightmare in the longest format, this time on Day 2 of the ongoing Lord's Test on July 11. Joe Root, who resumed his innings on 99 on Day 2, first completed his 37th Test century to break umpteen records. With this he surpassed Rahul Dravid's Test century tally of 36. But right after getting to his ton, Jasprit Bumrah got the better of Root at the score of 104 to disrupt England's batting.

This wasn't the first time Bumrah took the prized wicket of Root in Tests. India's superstar pacer has hunted down Root 11 times in the longest format to make the England star his bunny.

- 311 runs
- 612 balls
- 11 Dismissal
- 28.27 average

Eand's promising start to the second day quickly unraveled as they suffered a significant top-order collapse within the first hour of play. The day began on a high note for the hosts, with Root completing his 37th Test century with a boundary off the very first ball, advancing from his overnight score of 99. However, the momentum shifted dramatically as Jasprit Bumrah orchestrated a devastating spell, claiming three quick wickets to dismantle the English batting lineup.

The pivotal moment came when Bumrah dismissed the well-set Root for 104 with a masterfully executed delivery. Pitching the ball on a fuller length just outside the off-stump, Bumrah achieved sharp inward movement that caught the inside edge of Root's bat before crashing into the middle stump.

Notably, with 11th dismissal of Root in Tests, Bumrah is in parity with Australian captain Pat Cummins as the bowler who has dismissed the former England captain the most.

Bumrah started running riot with Ben Stokes dismissal. He then gave marching orders to Root and followed it up with Chris Woakes' scalp to leave England reeling at 271/7.
