Shreyas Iyer's start as India's T20I captain has been far from ideal in terms of results, but the Mumbai batter achieved a notable milestone even before the first ball was bowled in the fourth T20I against England. By winning yet another toss, Iyer entered an elite list of Indian captains, overtaking stalwarts MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma in a unique T20I record.

Shreyas Iyer wins sixth straight T20I toss to enter elite captaincy list
Iyer called correctly at the toss ahead of India's fourth T20I against England, extending his remarkable streak to six consecutive toss wins as captain. The achievement makes him the third-most successful Indian captain in terms of consecutive tosses won in T20Is.
Only MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli have enjoyed longer or equal streaks at the top. Dhoni remains the record holder with seven successive toss wins between May 2010 and February 2012, while Kohli also won six in a row during 2019. Iyer has now moved past Rohit Sharma and another Dhoni streak of five consecutive toss victories.
Most consecutive tosses won by an India captain in T20Is:
7 – MS Dhoni (May 2010 – February 2012)
6 – Virat Kohli (August 2019 – December 2019)
6 – Shreyas Iyer (June 2026 – July 2026)*
5 – Rohit Sharma (February 2020 – February 2022)
5 – MS Dhoni (September 2007)
The streak continued after Iyer opted to bat first against England, with India looking to stay alive in the series.
Iyer still searching for first win as India's T20I captain
While luck has consistently favored Iyer at the toss, the same has not translated into victories on the field. The 31-year-old was appointed India's T20I captain last month, succeeding Suryakumar Yadav, but is still searching for his maiden win in the role.
India endured a disappointing start under Iyer, suffering a 2-0 series defeat against Ireland after losing both matches. The ongoing series against England has also proved challenging. India lost two matches, while the first game of the series ended without a result due to rain.
With India batting first after another successful toss in the fourth T20I, Shreyas Iyer will be hoping his side can finally convert his remarkable run of fortune at the toss into a long-awaited first victory as captain.
