Having already sealed the three-match T20I series, India lost the third and the final match against England despite Suryakumar Yadav's rollicking century (117) on Sunday (July 10).
Suryakumar smashed six maximums and 14 boundaries in his 55-ball stunning knock as he almost took India past the finish line but England's 216-run target proved too much for the Men in Blue, who were restricted to 198/9.
Proving his prowess in the shortest format once again, Suryakumar looked in his elements while belting the English bowlers left, right and centre.
On the contrary, the out of sorts Virat Kohli extended his 'talk of the town' patchy form with the willow. The former India captain was dismissed for a paltry 11 to leave India reeling at 31/3 before Surayakumar took up the mantle at Trent Bridge.
Kohli looked in his old flamboyant self when he cracked a four and a straight six off David Willey. But he was then caught at the cover while trying to whack a third consecutive boundary. He has managed only 12 runs in his two innings amid calls for his axe from the Twenty20 squad.
But present India skipper Rohit Sharma threw his weight behind Kohli, saying the team follows a 'thought process' when giving chance to its players. Rohit's take was in reference to Kapil Dev's statement on Kohli which he gave couple of days back.
The cricket legend had earlier said that Kohli needs to perform better, and if the spinner Ravichandran Ashwin could be dropped from the Test squad, why can't Virat be removed from the Twenty20 side.
"He is watching the game from outside and does not know what is happening inside. We have our thought process. We build our team and behind this, there is a lot of thinking. We back the boys and give them opportunities. So, these things you do not get to know from outside. So, whatever is happening outside is not important but what is happening inside is more important for us," Rohit said during a post-match press conference.
