India wrapped up the first Test against the West Indies in just three days as they secured a massive innings and 141-run victory over the hosts in Roseau, Dominica, on Friday, July 15. Windies needed 271 runs to take the lead but seven wickets by Ravichandran Ashwin bundled them for 130 runs in the second innings. However, the hero with the bat on his Test debut was Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Jaiswal scored 171 runs before edging one off Alzarri Joseph's bowling, bringing an end to a spectacular innings. He took 387 balls to score 171 runs and his innings was studded with 16 fours and one six, the third-highest by an Indian on Test debut. He did miss out on reaching the 187 that Shikhar Dhawan hit on his Test debut, but that does not take anything from their performance.

And the same was reiterated by skipper Rohit Sharma, who was visibly and rightly impressed with the batting of the young debutant. "He has the talent, he has shown us in the past that he is ready. Came and batted sensibly. The temperament was also tested, at no stage he was panicking. The chats were to remind him that 'you belong here. You have done the hard yards, enjoy your time here'," Rohit said.

Rohit was also very happy with the bowling performance of his side as they reduced their opponents to just 280 runs across two innings. Ashwin's 12 wickets was undoubtedly the highlight of their performance as the off-spinner complete his 8th 10-wicket haul, equalling Anil Kumble's tally in the process.

"Every run you score for the country is important. I would like to start by saying it was a great effort with the ball. Getting them out for 150 set the game for us. We knew batting would get tough, it wasn't easy to score runs. We knew we wanted to bat only once and bat long. Get over 400 runs and then came out and bowled really well," said Rohit.
