David Warner was left stunned as he learned that SRH had blocked him on social media.

Australian opener David Warner in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 edition led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to the coveted trophy in 2016. But his relationship with the franchise turned sour in the next few hours. As he failed to deliver, Warner was sacked as captain and was even dropped from the playing XI in 2021 after SRH managed just one win from their first six matches. But Warner moved on after controversy and returned to his former franchise Delhi Capitals (DC). During his IPL 2024 auction, Warner had to learn the hard way that he had been blocked by the franchise on social media when he tried to congratulate his teammate Travis Head

After leading Australia to their sixth ODI World Cup title win last month, Head was expected to return to IPL and be one of the most expensive buys of the auction. But Head’s name did not lead to an aggressive bidding war. He was roped in by SRH for Rs 6.8 crore.

Warner decided to repost his teammate’s Instagram story but learned that he had been blocked by the franchise. He shared a screenshot of the blank story. Later, he shared a screenshot showing that he had been blocked on X (formerly known as Twitter) as well.

Warner also congratulated his captain Pat Cummins who was bought for Rs 20.50 crore by SRH becoming the most expensive player in IPL auction history for a brief period. Mitchell Starc ended up breaking that record as he was bought for a mind-boggling Rs 24.75 crore by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

On the other hand, Warner was retained by DC before the IPL 2024 mini-auction. Leading Capitals in injured Rishabh Pant's absence, he scored 516 runs from 14 matches at an average of 36.86 including six half-centuries. He scored runs at a strike rate of 131.63.

Currently, Warner is playing in his farewell Test series at home against Pakistan. He scored 164 in the Perth Test to help Australia post a big total on the board. He will be seen in action again in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
