Gujarat Titans registered their lowest IPL score.

Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill wasn’t pleased with his team’s batting performance against Delhi Capitals (DC) as they were bowled out for their lowest Indian Premier League (IPL) score of 89. Only three GT batters could score in double digits as they suffered a batting collapse at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. After their six-wicket loss, Gill lashed out at his batters for throwing their wickets away and said that the pitch had nothing to do with their embarrassing performance.

“Our batting was very average, and it is important to move on and come back strong. The wicket was alright, if you see some of the dismissals, it had nothing to do with the pitch. Poor shot selection I would say,” Gill said in the post-match presentation.

Gill opened the bowling with debutant Sandeep Warrier and introduced his trump card Rashid Khan in the sixth over of the innings. He said that defending such a small total isn't possible unless a bowler takes a double hat-trick.

“When the opposition are chasing 89, unless someone takes a double hat-trick, the opposition will always be in the game,” the opener said.

NRR takes a massive hit

Gill hit a couple of boundaries before falling into veteran pacer Ishant Sharma's trap and handing an easy catch to Prithvi Shaw at covers in the second over. After the loss, GT slipped to the seventh spot. Their net run rate (NRR) of -1.303 is even worse than the bottom-placed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

“This is just the halfway mark of the season for us, we have won 3 and hopefully we win another 5-6 from the next 7 like in the last couple of years,” he concluded.

A new low against Delhi Capitals

This was also the lowest total against DC in IPL history. The previous lowest total belonged to Mumbai Indians (MI). They were bowled out for 92 at Wankhede Stadium in the 2012 edition of IPL.
