Kohli became the first batter to score 4,000 runs as opener for an IPL franchise.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) opener Virat Kohli created history at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on April 25. Kohli became the first batter in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to score 400 or more runs in 10 seasons. He surpassed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend Suresh Raina who had crossed the 400-run mark in nine seasons.

Kohli scored 51 runs from 43 balls. He is still the leading run-scorer in the ongoing season with 430 runs from nine innings at an average of 61.43 including one century and three fifties.

Kohli also became the fourth batter to score 4,000 runs as an opener in IPL and the only one to do it for one franchise. Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shikhar Dhawan is on top with 6,362 runs form 202 innings. Delhi Capitals' (DC) David Warner has 5,909 runs from 162 innings. West Indies' Chris Gayle has 4,480 runs from 122 innings.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul is set to join the list of IPL legends as he needs 35 more runs to achieve the milestone. Rahul has 3,965 runs from 93 innings so far.

Kohli’s electrifying start

This was Kohli's 53rd IPL fifty. After skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bat first, Kohli went on the offense in the powerplay overs. He scored 32 runs from 18 balls during the fielding restrictions.

Kohli slows down after powerplay overs

He slowed down after Will Jacks' wicket and played second fiddle to Rajat Patidar who smashed a fifty from just 19 deliveries.  After Patidar's wicket, Kohli could not accelerate. He could not hit the slower off-cutter from Jaydev Unadkat over the boundary and got caught by Abdul Samad. His 43-ball 51 featured four fours and a six.
