On April 11, Mumbai Indians (MI) won their second match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by seven wickets. MI’s wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan played a major role in the big win. He scored a match-winning half-century and provided an ideal start to the run chase. After the match, Kishan made it clear that he is not thinking about T20 World Cup 2024 selection and is taking one step at a time.
Earlier this year, Kishan lost his central contract with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after he didn’t join his Ranji Trophy side. The wicketkeeper-batter remains to be a contender for the T20 World Cup squad. In the run chase of 197, Kishan scored 69 off just 34 balls and smashed five sixes and seven fours.
MI opener speaking in the post-match press conference, answered questions about chances of him getting selected in the T20 World Cup squad.
"You asked me about the World Cup. I think that is something that is not in my hand and I take things very easy right now. You just have to take one match at a time. It's a very big tournament. You don't want to overstep somewhere. So I'm just taking one game at a time. And however, I can help the team,” he said.
‘There's nothing like that I want to prove to someone’
Kishan made his comeback to competitive cricket in the IPL with a duck. He left the South Africa tour midway and didn’t join Jharkhand Ranji Trophy squad which had repercussions.
After scoring his first fifty of the season Ishan said he is not trying to prove anything and does not want to take unnecessary pressure over something he can’t control.
“There's nothing like that I want to prove to someone. I just have to go there and enjoy it because I've learned that you don't have to put pressure on yourself about things that are not in your hands. The uncontrollable is there, and you have to figure out what is controllable and uncontrollable,’ the southpaw said.
