India pacer Mohammed Shami makes a big statement on Rohit Sharma's captaincy

India's prime speedster Mohammed Shami showered praise on his skipper Rohit Sharma and termed him a good and very supportive captain. Rohit and Co. whitewashed West Indies in the recently concluded three-match ODI series. Both the sides will now be up against each other for the T20 series which is slated to kick off from Wednesday (February 16).

 

"Rohit no doubt is a good captain. He has won many IPL seasons and is a great leader. He has been really supportive to me, as we both have been playing for a long time now," Shami said.

Rohit Sharma, who recently took over the white-ball captaincy replacing Virat Kohli, is also the front-runner to become the new Test captain too.

 

The biggest proof of Rohit captaincy prowess can be seen in the IPL record books as he has spurred Mumbai Indians to a record glory of winning five league titles.

 

On being picked by Gujarat Titans for Rs 6.5 crore at the Indian Premier League (IPL), 2022, mega auctions, the pacer said that he is really excited to join the new franchise.

"I am very happy and looking forward to the team as soon as possible. Will try to give 100 per cent to this franchise and get the best results possible," said the pacer.

"I always want to leave a mark behind for the youngsters to follow. So, I will be frank with all the young players in the squad to motivate them to perform better for the team. These youngsters will be performing well and it will be a good sign for our country," he added.

 

Mohammed Shami had a great season for Punjab Kings in the last edition of the Indian Premier League, picking 19 wickets in 14 games he played at an average of 20.78. Shami was rested for the ODI series against Proteas and the ongoing white-ball series against West Indies. The pacer will be next seen in action in the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka next month.

 

IPL 2022, mega auction took place in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. Ishan Kishan (Rs 15.25 crore), Deepak Chahar (Rs 14 crore), and Shreyas Iyer (Rs 12.25 crore) were among the top picks of the mega auction.
