The Rajasthan Royals (RR) pulled off a stunning four-wicket victory against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Dharamsala on Friday (May 19) as they fought to stay alive in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 playoffs. Chasing 187 for the win, they scored 189 courtesy of half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal, with the former creating his own piece of history on Friday night.

Jaiswal is now the uncapped player with the most runs in a single season. With his 50 against the Punjab Kings, Jaiswal now has 625 runs in 14 matches, going above Shaun Marsh's 616 runs for the erstwhile Kings XI Punjab in the inaugural IPL in 2008.

He also went above Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, both of whom achieved this feat with the Mumbai Indians (MI).

MOST RUNS BY UNCAPPED PLAYER IN AN IPL SEASON

Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR) - 624* in 2023
Shaun Marsh (KXIP) - 616 in 2008
Ishan Kishan (MI) - 516 in 2020
Suryakumar Yadav (MI) - 512 in 2018
Suryakumar Yadav (MI) - 480 in 2020

Another elite list that the cricketer has joined is one that includes the likes of Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Marsh, all of whom have scored more than 600 runs in an IPL season before turning 25. Kohli scored 634 runs in 2013, Rishabh Pant 684 runs in 2018 and Ruturaj Gaikwad 636 runs in 2021 for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

For RR on Friday night. chasing a tough total of 187, RR were off to a slow start when they lost ace batter Jos Buttler for a duck in the second over. In doing so, Buttler created an all-time unwanted IPL record as he clocked his fifth duck of IPL 2023, the most by any batter in a single season. It was Kagiso Rabada who extended Buttler's nightmarish season on the fourth ball of the second over.

However, Jaiswal and Padikkal stitched together a 72-run stand and took RR's scoreboard from a precarious 12/1 to 85/1, with Riyan Parag (20 off 12), Shimron Hetmyer (46 off 28), and finally Dhruv Jurel taking their team over the line.
