IPL 2023: Massive fine imposed on Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir and Naveen-ul-Haq for indulging in verbal fight after LSG vs RCB game

In the 43rd match of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) exacted their revenge and defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 18 runs in a low-scoring encounter at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The game will be remembered for the verbal fight between former RCB skipper Virat Kohli and LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir as the duo indulged in a huge war of words after the conclusion of the match.

The league took cognizance of the unnecessary escalation and imposed a heavy fine on Kohli and Gambhir. The RCB batter was fined 100% of his match fees and the LSG mentor was also docked for his entire match fees.

"Lucknow Super Giants’ mentor Gautam Gambhir has been fined 100 percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow," IPL said in a release.

"Mr Gambhir admitted to 

the Level 2 offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct.

"Royal Challengers Bangalore batter Virat Kohli has been fined 100 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.

"Mr Kohli admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct," the release added.

LSG fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq was also penalised for getting involved in a heated exchange with Kohli during the customary handshake between players after the game. The Afghanistan pacer was fined 50% of his match fees.

"Lucknow Super Giants’ Bowler Naveen-ul-Haq has been fined 50 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow," the release said.

“Mr Naveen-ul-Haq admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct,” the release added.
