Gujarat Titans (GT) opener Shubman Gill has been in good form this Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Gill scored an unbeaten 51-ball 94 in Titans' 56-run win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at home on May 7. While Gill was adjudged ‘Player of the match’, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag is not happy with Gill's numbers this season. Sehwag wants Gill to score 600-700 runs by the time season ends.

“It should've been better. His 375 in 10 matches should be around 550 by the end of the season. He's played India in all formats, he's scored big runs, and should be using his form better. When he finishes the season, it is possible that he has 600-700 runs,” Sehwag was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

“If I were Shubman Gill, I wouldn't be happy with myself. I had been in good form, and I've scored 375 runs. But there isn't much improvement. The numbers might have slightly improved, but it's quite marginal. He looks good while playing his shots, he comes out with a positive intent. But overall, the numbers haven't really changed much. I hope in his last four matches, he really shows the class that he has displayed for the Indian team. I want a century from him,” Sehwag added.

Gill and Wriddhiman Saha shared a 142-run opening partnership. With the help of cameos from skipper Hardik Pandya and David Miller, Titans posted 227/2, the fourth-highest total of the season. It was also GT's highest IPL total, surpassing 207/6 against Mumbai Indians (MI) they posted earlier this season.

Gill carried his bat for the first time in a T20 game when he was batting in 90s. It is the second-highest score by a GT batter. The highest also belongs to Gill who scored 59-ball 96 against Punjab Kings in IPL 2022. In the post-match presentation, the in-form opener revealed that he thought about century only in the last over.

“It was on my mind in the last over, till the fourth ball where I could not get the boundary, but we have five more games and I will get my chance,” the 23-year-old said.
