Former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu has advised a batting order alteration for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in their next game against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday, March 31. Mumbai has had a poor start to their campaign, losing both of their matches thus far. The Hardik Pandya-led side lost their first two games of the season to Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans, respectively.

Ambati Rayudu's advice to MI

Rayudu recently encouraged MI to turn things around quickly, claiming that they have the proper players and only need to find the right combination. He also advised promoting Naman Dhir to number three in the forthcoming game.

"I think Mumbai Indians have a solid squad this year—it’s only a matter of time before they turn things around. They have the right players; it’s just about fine-tuning the combinations and placing the pieces correctly. Maybe sending Naman Dhir at No. 3 and pushing Hardik Pandya up the order could strengthen the batting line-up,” Rayudu said on JioHotstar.

Furthermore, Rayudu praised Pandya's leadership abilities, noting that he has proven himself as captain throughout his time with the Gujarat Titans.

“As for Hardik, he has already proven himself as a leader with Gujarat Titans, and I don’t think any other Indian cricketer has faced a tougher phase than he has. Despite that, he has shown incredible mental strength, winning crucial ICC tournaments for India. Now, leading Mumbai Indians is another testament to his resilience. I’m sure he and the team will bounce back strongly,” he added.

MI are missing their star speedster Jasprit Bumrah, who has yet to fully recover from a back ailment and is being treated at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Their new-ball pair of Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult has struggled thus far, as has their batting as a whole. Rohit Sharma, the team's standout opener, is yet to get off to an explosive start, scoring only 0 and 8. As a result, MI have a lot to work on in their upcoming match as they aim to start the season fresh on their own turf.
