Riyan Parag cracked six back to back sixes in an explosive display of explosive batting

In a breathtaking display of explosive hitting during their IPL 2025 encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals' stand-in captain Riyan Parag etched his name in the record books. The 23-year-old all-rounder unleashed a barrage of six sixes in quick succession.

Riyan Parag hammers six sixes in six balls

This incredible feat began with five consecutive maximums off the final five legal deliveries of the Rajasthan Royals' 13th over, bowled by Moeen Ali. Parag then continued his six-hitting spree by launching the second ball of the subsequent 14th over, bowled by Varun Chakaravarthy, over the boundary. With this Parag ended up cracking six consecutive sixes. This was the first time any batter has tonked six sixes in the IPL history.

Riyan Parag's feat of hitting five sixes in a single over places him alongside a select group of power-hitters in the Indian Premier League, including the likes of Chris Gayle, Rahul Tewatia, and Rinku Singh, who have also achieved this remarkable milestone in a single over of an IPL match.

Rahul Tewatia vs S Cotterell, 2020
Ravindra Jadeja vs Harshal Patel, 2021
Rinku Singh vs Yash Dayal, 2023

The RR's stand-in captain was dismissed on the fourth ball of the 17th over, at a personal score of 95 runs. This innings marked his highest-ever score in IPL.

Despite the numerous instances of powerful hitting in the Indian Premier League's history, no batter has yet achieved the remarkable feat of hitting six sixes in a single over. While several players have thrilled fans by smashing five sixes in an over, the elusive sixth maximum has remained out of reach in the IPL.

However, the record of hitting six consecutive sixes in a single over has been accomplished in T20 Internationals by three distinguished batsmen. Nepal's Dipendra Singh Airee has achieved this twice, against Qatar and Mongolia. West Indies' Kieron Pollard reached this milestone in 2021 during a match against Sri Lanka, towards the end of his illustrious career. Notably, India's Yuvraj Singh famously achieved this in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, when he spectacularly hit six sixes off Stuart Broad's bowling.

Talking about the match, RR ended up losing the match by mere 1 run. While chasing a big target of 207, RR found themselves needing 22 runs in the final over, which was being bowled by Vaibhav Arora. Shubham Dubey kept Rajasthan's hopes alive with a valiant effort, smashing two sixes and a boundary, bringing the equation down to just 3 runs required off the last delivery. However, in a dramatic turn of events, a sharp and accurate throw from Rinku Singh resulted in Jofra Archer being run out while attempting to steal a second run. This crucial moment sealed a nail-biting one-run win for KKR despite Riyan Parag's lightning 45-ball 95.

Meanwhile RR will next lock horns with CSK on May 12 at the MA Chidambaram stadium.
