In preparation for the 2025 Indian Premier League, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have hired Ottis Gibson as their assistant coach. Ryan ten Doeschate, who had been with KKR for a few seasons until leaving after the 2024 Indian Premier League to join Gautam Gambhir's staff with the Indian men's side, has been replaced by him. The defending IPL champions, KKR, have had to make some adjustments to their lineup, both in the back room and in the playing group.
Ajinkya Rahane becomes new KKR captain
After being freed prior to the massive auction, Shreyas Iyer, who guided the club to the championship the previous year, was selected by the Punjab Kings and made captain. Since then, KKR has named Ajinkya Rahane captain for the 2025 Indian Premier League, with Venkatesh Iyer serving as his deputy.
Gibson joins KKR
Dwayne Bravo has been brought in as a mentor in the back room because Gambhir left at the end of the 2024 Indian Premier League to become India's head coach. Chandrakant Pandit is the head coach, and B Arun, Carl Crowe, Nathan Leamon, and others are present. The remainder of the team is dressed in familiar attire. After retiring from cricket, Gibson, a former fast bowler for the West Indies, has become a highly sought-after coach.
While still playing cricket, he was named bowling coach of the England men's national team in 2007. He later switched to coaching full-time and has since served as head coach of the South African and West Indies men's national teams. Gibson also served as bowling coach for the Bangladesh men's national team and England for a second time. In addition to Yorkshire, he has worked with several T20 teams.
With Venkatesh Iyer as his deputy, new captain Ajinkya Rahane will lead KKR in their championship defense opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 22 at home.
