Bumrah endures worst IPL season, managing just 3 wickets in 10 matches.

Mumbai Indians (MI) secured a commanding win over Rishabh Pant's Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their IPL 2026 clash on Monday, May 4 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Despite the win, MI's concern about Jasprit Bumrah remained the same, as the star pacer went wicketless again with leaking 45 runs in four overs. Interestingly, the right-arm pacer bowled two no-balls in a single over, which led to a strong criticism from legend Sunil Gavaskar.

The incident took place in the 14th over when Bumrah dismissed Himmat Singh, but the LSG batter survived because it was a no-ball. Bumrah followed it up with a wide and then overstepped again. However, the 32-year-old pacer did not give extra runs on the free hit, restricting Aiden Markram from taking full advantage of it.

Sunil Gavaskar, who was at the commentary box, slammed Bumrah for the mistake, it is totally unacceptable from a professional cricketer. Gavaskar said that bowling a wide is okay but two no balls in a single over is a serious crime.

"Do not tell me again! Do not tell me that Bumrah has bowled a no-ball. That is not acceptable. You are a professional cricketer; it is not acceptable. Wides, yes, I understand, but no balls, no," Gavaskar said on air.

Jasprit Bumrah's underwhelming performances in IPL 2026

In the ongoing IPL 2026, the star India speedster is seriously struggling for consistently taking breakthroughs, managing only three wickets after playing 10 matches for MI, at an economy rate of 8.809 and a bowling average of 109.67.

This year is a big surprise as it turns out to be Bumrah's worst IPL campaigns since making his debut. He is relying heavily on the slower balls, which is not Bumrah's typical trait.

Next challenge for Mumbai Indians

After claiming third win of the season, MI still stands at the ninth place with six points after playing nine matches (three wins and seven losses) at a net run rate of -0.649. Now, they will turn their focus to prepare for their upcoming game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday, May 10 at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Raipur.
