Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legendary off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is not happy with the current state of affairs at the franchise. After the loss to Punjab Kings (PBKS), Ashwin teared into CSK’s auction strategy. He wondered why CSK’s Rs 14.20 crore uncapped recruit Prashant Veer did not bowl a single over while other bowlers were taking a beating. He also criticised CSK for ignoring several players who were available at the mini-auction. In addition, he wondered why Jamie Overton was benched despite a 36-ball 43 and Matt Short didn’t find a place either.
"CSK played Prashant Veer, and did not give him even one over. Remember, during the mini-auction, when there were options like David Miler, Jason Holder, Lungi Ngidi, Cooper Connolly. There were so many such options that you needed, even then you got two young players. I give a thumbs up for that, but they should be given a chance, right?" R Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

"How will we know their talent without seeing them? It is surprising, and a little bit of a concern. Jamie Overton who played well in the last match was benched, then Matt Short was also dropped, there were only two overseas players. All of this does not happen in the CSK that I know," he added.
CSK face RCB challenge
After two defeats, CSK are once again at the bottom of the points table. Their next challenge is even a tougher one. They face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium. In comparison, RCB look more settled.
CSK face injury setback, bench untested
CSK’s star opening pair – Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson – hasn’t fired whereas Dewald Brevis and legendary MS Dhoni are unavailable due to their respective injuries. On the bench, they have the likes of Akeal Hosein, Urvil Patel, Zakary Foulkes and Ramakrishna Ghosh.
Meanwhile, CSK picked an unfit Spencer Johnson as replacement of an injured Nathan Ellis. Johnson will join the squad April 21-23.
